Greetings Friends!
Happy New Year! I hope your holidays were enjoyable and full of adventure! Lotus Expeditions has been on the road and exploring new destinations beginning with an amazing Exploratory Trek into Mustang, Nepal in November followed by a river trip on the Po River in Northern Thailand. In December we traveled to Costa Rica for a Yoga and Surf Exploratory. After the warmth and sunshine of Central America we journeyed home to Colorado for the holidays where plentiful snow and cold temperatures have created a wonderland for winter recreation including skiing, ice climbing, and snow angels.
Before we get too comfortable with Winter, however, Lotus Expeditions will head to the Southern Hemisphere in February for a little more sunshine and the long days of Summer. After a fly-fishing recon on the South Island of New Zealand we will head to Argentina and Chile for world-class fly-fishing and the excellent food and wine which are famous in Patagonia.
Lotus Expeditions’ Southern Hemisphere’s Summer Season is in full swing with luxury sea kayaking expeditions in Patagonia, Chile and trekking explorations of Chile’s stunning Torres Del Paine National Park and Peru’s famous Inca Trail to the ruins of Machu Picchu.
We hope your New Year’s resolutions include fun, adventure and international travel and that you will join us soon on an unforgettable journey.
Best Wishes in 2008,
Raleigh Coburn

Trekking in Torres Del Paine National Park, Chile
Granite spires, massive glaciers, turquoise lakes and glistening blue icebergs. Torres Del Paine is one of the classic treks of the world and due to its remoteness still sees fewer visitors than many of the world’s popular treks. We offer the shorter "W" Trek and the challenging Full Circuit Trek.

Hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in March- Budget Trip!
For many modern travelers, Peru conjures images of elaborate stone walkways along the Inca Trail or the misty ruins of Machu Picchu. Nestled deep in the Andes Mountains, and hidden to the outside world for centuries, this archaeological masterpiece remains a mystery to explorers and historians. Inexplicably abandoned by the Incas and never revealed to the Spanish conquistadors, it is known as "the lost city of the Incas."

Summer 2008- Trekking and Buddhist Culture in Mustang, Nepal
Mustang, considered a "lost Tibetan kingdom," is one of the last restricted (and least visited) areas in Nepal. The region is a part of the Tibetan plateau and sits in the rain shadow of Dhaulagiri and the Annapurnas. It is a high altitude desert split by Grand Canyon-size river gorges and surrounded by towering, snow-covered peaks.
Plans to build a road from the Tibetan border, through the heart of Mustang and into Nepal are underway. This lifeline will bring cheaper goods into the region and will facilitate the export of locally produced goods. It will also open up the area to more outsiders. Seen as a positive by locals, rapid modernization will have a powerful impact on the traditional way of life of this peaceful Buddhist culture and it will consequently be changed forever. The time to visit Mustang is now thus Lotus Expeditions will offer treks to this extraordinary region this Summer and Fall, 2008.

Women’s Yoga and Surf in Costa Rica
In December Lotus Expeditions traveled to Costa Rica to check out the local surf and the world-class yoga institute at Nosara. We discovered a perfect beginner beach break, friendly locals, delicious food and drink, and pristine jungle. Other activities in the area include kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, jungle hikes, canopy tours, fishing, and horseback riding. It is an adventure paradise and plans are underway to offer Lotus Expeditions’ first Women’s Yoga and Surf Adventures in 2008.
